Family Displaced After Dehumidifier Sparks Fairfax Station Fire

Two firefighters were injured in the Fairfax Station fire, which was sparked by a dehumidifier and the household wiring.

FAIRFAX STATION, VA—Three residents have been forced out of their home after Friday's fire in Fairfax Station. Two firefighters were injured but are expected to be ok.

Firefighters responded to the house fire around the 7:26 a.m. hour in the 10600 block of Timberidge Road. Tanker trucks were requested to transport water to put out the fire. Firefighters were able to locate the fire in the basement and get it under control.

Two residents were home at the time and escaped after smelling smoke. One of the injured firefighters was taken to the hospital for evaluation and the other was treated on scene.

The fire originated in the basement due to an electrical event involving a dehumidifier and electrical writing. The house has an estimated $25,000 in damages. The family did not need Red Cross assistance.
