Springfield Interchange Overnight Detours Jan. 24
All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the exit to
I-95 south from I-495 west, Inner Loop, at the Springfield Interchange overnight on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
Starting at 9 p.m., crews will close the left lane on the exit ramp and progress to closing the entire I-95 south exit ramp after midnight at which time the below detour route will be in effect.
Detour: I-95 south traffic will be detoured to Exit 170B onto I-395 north and take Exit 2B, Edsall Road west, follow signage back to I-95 south. The detour may add an additional 15-20 minutes onto a trip during overnight hours.
At midnight, a left lane on I-495 west, Inner Loop, before the Springfield Interchange will also be closed and after midnight crews will close all lanes on I-495 west before the Springfield Interchange for a temporary stoppage of up to 30 minutes in all lanes to install an overhead sign structure. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.
Motorists should expect delays and add additional time onto their trips through this area or consider an alternative route to access I-95 south.
This work is part of the 495 Express Lanes Project. The project is on scheduled to be completed in late 2012.
Should inclement weather cancel this work it will be rescheduled for 9 p.m., Jan. 25.
