Stuff The Bus Food Drive Returns To Burke

Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw is hosting a Stuff the Bus event at his Braddock District office on Saturday, March 19.

BURKE, VA — Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw is hosting a Stuff the Bus event at his Braddock District office on Saturday, March 19.

The event will benefit the food pantry ECHO, or Ecumenical Community Helping Others. The public can visit ECHO’s website to see what items are needed before going to the grocery store to buy items for the food drive.

The Burke food drive will take place March 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 9002 Burke Lake Road.

Food pantries have seen increased demand for assistance since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. According to Feeding America, Fairfax County had a projected food insecurity rate of 7.4 percent in 2021, compared to a rate of 5.8 percent in 2019.

Stuff the Bus began in 2011 in response to a need to help restock the shelves of local food pantries. This collaborative program is a partnership between Fairfax County Government and ECHO and other local nonprofits.

Since its inception, Stuff the Bus has collected over 220 tons of food to feed hungry people in Fairfax County.
