Open Concept Floor Plans Can Create Better Flow In Your Home
There was a time when homes were built with compartmentalized rooms meant to serve very specific functions. Think about visiting your parents’ or grandparents’ house; as you enter through the front door, the hallway would be flanked with a living and dining room on either side with the kitchen tucked in the back. Mom and the kids would gather in the kitchen to prepare a meal while Dad and the guests would sit in the family room chatting and neither parties would be able to interact.
It’s difficult to create a cozy, relaxing atmosphere for spending time with family or entertaining guests in a compartmentalized floor plan. Many of these homes still exist in the neighborhoods of Northern Virginia. They are truly beautiful homes with great “bones” just waiting to be transformed into an open concept floor plan.
