Week Ahead: Sales Tax Holiday, Mariachi Los Amigos at Royal Lake Park

Virginia’sĀ August Sales Tax Holiday onĀ SchoolĀ Supplies and Clothing is this weekend.Ā From Friday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 4,Ā purchases of qualifyingĀ schoolĀ supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item, will be exempt from sales tax.

Fairfax County Animal ShelterĀ temporarily stopped taking in dogsĀ last Friday after dogs at the shelter began showing symptoms of an unknown respiratory illness. The test results from that illness are expected to be released this week.

The Al Washingtonia will kick off the final month of performances for the Braddock District Summer concert S=series on Friday, Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield.

The Bavarian group Ā Al WashingtoniaĀ won't be the only performers ushering in August for the concert series. The Mariachi Los Amigos will bring their mariachi sound to Royal Lake Park in Fairfax onĀ Friday, Aug. 2, alsoĀ at 7:30 p.m.

TheĀ Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County will host a ā€œPerils of the College Drinking Cultureā€ forumĀ and panel discussion in nearby Annandale on Wednesday, July 31 from 7-9 p.m.Ā The forum will be inĀ the Ernst Community Cultural Center on the Annandale campus ofĀ Northern Virginia Community College.
