What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2021 In Burke
The Labor Day holiday brings changes to services and various events around the region.

BURKE, VA — Labor Day often translates to the unofficial end of summer. Many students have already gone back to school, but there's some time for last-minute summer fun during the three-day holiday weekend.
Various events will be happening Labor Day weekend in the DC region. Some services in and around Burke are closed or modified for the federal holiday on Monday, Sept. 6. Below are the changes to know.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Monday, Sept. 6.
Fairfax County Public Schools: All Fairfax County Public Schools are closed Sept. 3 to 6.

Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter offers services by appointment.
Burke Centre Conservancy: Sept. 6 is an observed holiday for Burke Centre employees. Pools will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 4 to 6, except Oaks, which will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Courts: Fairfax Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Sept. 6.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All Virginia DMV locations in Northern Virginia (including 2681 Mill Rd.) are open by appointment only. Many DMV services are available either online or by visiting dmvNOW.com/appt to schedule an appointment. Walk-in services are not available at this time.
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will run on a Sunday schedule on Sept. 6.
Libraries: All Fairfax County Public Library branches will be closed on Sept. 6.
Metro: Metrorail and Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule on Sept. 6. Starting Sept. 5, Metro will introduce various changes to attract riders, including a $2 one-way fare for any trip. For more information, visit www.wmata.com.
Park authority: Colvin Run Mill; Sully Historic Site; nature centers at E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond, and Huntley Meadows; and Green Spring Gardens are closed on Sept. 6. Riverbend Park Visitor Center will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but the visitor center will be closed.
Post offices: Closed on Sept. 6.
Recreation centers: On Sept. 6, RECenters will be open regular hours to 6 p.m. George Washington RECenter will be closed.
Trash and recycling: County collection customers will have collection services on Sept. 6. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for any changes.
Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex are open regular hours on Sept. 6.
Virginia Railway Express: There is no VRE service on Sept. 6. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
