Old Town Festival of Speed & Style Rolls In Labor Day Weekend

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The second annual Old Town Festival of Speed & Style rolls into Alexandria over Labor Day weekend in 2021.

The free festival features over 100 rare and unusual supercars and vintage motorcycles from around the world for close viewing on Sunday, Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event spans three blocks on lower King Street around Market Square. Local boutiques, salons and retailers will get involved through a special fashion demonstration showcasing styles from the cars on display from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Live music and street vendors will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to explore Old Town's shops and restaurants.

The event is presented by Burke & Herbert Bank. Proceeds from the event will benefit the USO (Metro Washington Baltimore) ALIVE, which provides safety net assistance to those in need in Alexandria.

The second annual festival was supposed to happen in 2020 and was postponed three times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first-ever festival drew thousands of families, visitors and car enthusiasts around the region to see high-performance and racing vehicles from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The Old Town Festival of Speed & Style was the idea of Rick Myllenbeck, owner of Sonoma Cellar in Old Town. It is co-produced by a group of volunteer Alexandria vintage car collectors, experts and enthusiasts.

This year's event will be preceded by the King Street High-Octane Ball, a ticketed event on Saturday, Sept. 4 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The dress-up event celebrates the "style" element of the festival, highlighting how style complements the exotic vehicles. Food prepared by local restaurants, wine, libation, and live music will be part of the ball.
