In regards to the large amount of crime scene tape surrounding the townhouse and in the woods nearby, Walker said, "We were looking into every single possibility we thought we could find if it turned out to be a homicide. It turned out not to be."

A news release is expected soon with information about her identity.

Police responding to a call from a concerned friend found an adult female dead inside a townhouse on the 8400 block of Sugar Creek Lane in Springfield around 2 p.m. yesterday.

"There was no immediate cause of death, so they backed out, secured the residence and called for our detectives and crime scene," said Officer Bud Walker with the Public Information Office. The woman's cause of death still has not been determined.

The police visit was due to a friend's call on Wednesday who requested a welfare check, saying the woman had not been seen in a long time. A different friend asked for a welfare check on Tuesday.

"On Tuesday, the officers didn’t feel like they had enough probable cause to breach the door," Walker said. "But yesterday, when we had a second person asking us to do a welfare check - after talking to neighbors - the officers felt like they needed to go into that house."

Crime scene investigators are currently processing the inside of the townhouse. An autopsy is being performed to determine cause of death.
