WSHS Drama Presents 'Father of the Bride'

Three 7 p.m. performances and a Saturday matinee; tickets $7.

presents four performances of Father of the Bride November 17 - 19.

The three-act comedy by Caroline Francke (1899 - 1960) was made into a movie in 1950, starring Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett, and Elizabeth Taylor.  The 1991 remake featured Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, and Martin Short.

In the play, Mr. Banks learns that one of the young men occasionally seen around the house is about to become his son-in-law.  When daughter Kay announces her engagement to Buckley Dunstan, Mrs. Banks and her sons are happy, but Mr. Banks is more than disconcerted.

As the play progresses, the simple wedding Buckley and Kay initially plan balloons into a huge affair with growing expense. As the guest list grows, so does the chaos in the Banks’ home. When Kay, in a fit of temper, calls off the wedding, everyone's patience snaps.

Eventually, all is set right.

"This feel good comedy will leave the older audience happy and content, recalling memories of their own chaotic weddings and thoughts of what is to come when their own children find a mate," said WSHS Theater Director Mary Jo Levesque. "The younger crowd will laugh at all the antics."

The WSHS cast takes on the roles of the Banks and Dunstan families, with Brittany Morgan and Maeve Nash sharing the role of Kay Banks; Willy Mason and Connor Chroman sharing the role of Buckley Dunstan; Alex Nelson and Drew Holcombe sharing the role of Mr. Banks; and Rachel Steiner and Miranda Tower sharing the role of Mrs. Banks.

Evening performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday begin at 7 p.m., and Saturday's matinee begins at 2 p.m.  Tickets are $7 at the door.
