WWII Vets Record Histories, Experiences for Voices of Freedom Project

On Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Greenspring welcomed the Americans in Wartime Museum's mobile recording studio

(Springfield, Va.) - On Sunday, December 7, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, local WWII veterans shared their stories for the Voices of Freedom Project, coordinated by the Americans in Wartime Museum. The project’s mobile recording studio visited Greenspring retirement community in Springfield, Va. to record their histories and experiences.

Greenspring’s WWII veterans have long been supportive of recording their histories for posterity. In 2005, a resident spearheaded an initiative to record war stories for the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project and in December 2012, nearly two dozen WWII vets from Greenspring recorded oral histories at the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. with the help of students from West Springfield High School.
