In recognition of Constitution Week, September 17 - 23, 2017, the Lane’s Mill Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) created a display for the month of September at the Centreville Library. Committee chairman Peggy Hogge designed the display with assistance from members Charlene Gross, Mimi Spear and Valerie Sink.
In 1955, DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was adopted by Congress and signed into public law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The purpose is to:
Emphasize citizens' responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution.
