"The vanguard of a new species of progressive folk music" - Jason D. Hamad, The No Surf Review
"Astonishing creativity" - John Pratt, WFUV
The Folk Club of Reston-Herndon presents acclaimed classically trained folk trio Harpeth Rising in concert Tuesday April 12th, 7:15 pm, at Amphora Diner Deluxe, 1151 Elden Street in downtown Herndon.
Harpeth Rising is a Kentucky-based, all female trio playing original music as intricately arranged as a string quartet, lyrically rooted in the singer/songwriter tradition and wrapped in three-part vocal harmonies reminiscent of both Appalachia and Medieval Europe. Unapologetic genre-benders, this high-energy group fuses folk, bluegrass, elements of rock and even classical into a sound that is entirely unique.
Hallmarks of their music include expansive three-part harmonies, consummate musicianship and deft yet soulful lyrical prospective. Harpeth Rising's roots run deep from their varied ancestry across Eastern Europe to the musical hotbed of the Mid-South they now call home. They weave together ancient and modern musical motifs creating a sound that is both familiar and impossible to categorize.
