JV Lacrosse Team Starts the Season Right

Boys' JV lacrosse team takes victories against Yorktown and West Potomac high schools.

Following a successful scrimmage against Flint Hill the previous week, the Centreville High School JV boys lacrosse team played their first game of the 2013 season at Yorktown High School on March 14.

After a first quarter goal by the Patriots, the shooting went cold as both teams played strong defense. The Wildcat’s defensive line of Kyle Evans, Britton Lee, and Aidan Barnes performed well, knocking down shots and making smooth clears.

Early in the fourth quarter, Centreville’s Brian Yoo scored with a breakaway goal off a loose ball at midfield to tie the game, followed a few minutes later by a goal from John Tarver. Another goal by Yoo with two minutes remaining secured the lead, as the Wildcats prevailed 3-1. Goalie Josh Tarver had a great game against Yorktown, with over a dozen outright stops and several deflections. The team is coached by Ryan Richardson.

Centreville JV Boys Lacrosse then hosted West Potomac on March 15 for their second game of the season, recording a 15-5 victory. Matt Laurence scored on the game’s first possession, followed by Tommy Healy on the second. The Wildcats gave up a goal, but Tommy Bowden responded, receiving an assist from Healy. David Shim scored Centreville’s next two goals, with Jordan Delao assisting on the second. Bowden scored again as the first quarter ended with the Wildcats up 6-1.

The Wolverines opened the second quarter with a goal, but Brian Yoo scored following the next face-off. Another West Potomac goal was answered by a man up goal by David Shim. Shim followed up with his fourth goal of the game, assisted by Yoo, leading to a half-time total of 9-3.

The lead provided the luxury of frequent subbing for the rest of the game. Steven Rivera and Hunar Berzangi both got some time in goal relieving starter Josh Tarver, and most other players got some runs as well.

Third quarter scoring included Wildcat goals by Yoo, Brooks Anderson, and two by John Tarver, the first coming on a fast break and the second with an assist from Healy. The final total of 15 was reached in the fourth quarter with two goals by Centreville’s Adam Mahn.
