Westfield Summer Stage celebrates 15 years of summer musicals with the practically perfect Disney and Cameron Mackintosh musical MARY POPPINS, which comes to the Westfield High School stage for six performances July 17, 18, 24, and 25 at 7:30 pm and July 19 and 25 at 2 pm. All shows are at Westfield High School in Chantilly, Virginia. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Seating is reserved. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s MARY POPPINS delighted Broadway audiences for more than 2,500 performances and received seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Beloved tunes include “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Step in Time,” “Practically Perfect,” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
Madyson Hanton (Mary Poppins) and Joshua Ewalt (Bert) lead a cast of 48 talented actors from Northern Virginia ranging from grades 7 to 12 and including recent Class of 2015 graduates. Other leads include Harry Schlatter (Mr. Banks), Samantha Dempsey (Mrs. Banks), Lauren LeVine (Jane), John Henry Stamper (Michael), Karin Hoelzl (Mrs. Brill), Connor Rudy (Robinson Ay), and Nora Winsler (Bird Woman/Mrs. Andrews).
Patrick Mitchell is the director of MARY POPPINS. Also behind the scenes are Choreographer Rachel Shirley, Music Director Laura Walsh, Stage Manager Serena Emanuel, Producers Tina Dempsey, Karen Perigard, and Lori Knickerbocker, plus many other staff members and a student orchestra. Sets by Tina Dempsey and Rich Damers, costumes by Karen Perigard and Kathy Preisinger and props by Yvonne Henry creatively transport the audience back to early 20th century London.
Westfield Summer Stage is a theatre arts workshop founded in 2001 by Westfield Theatre Boosters that offers teen actors, technicians, and musicians a musical theatre experience during a summer workshop. Past Westfield Summer Stage shows include ANNIE, SNOOPY, PETER PAN, GREASE, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, BYE BYE BIRDIE, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, SOUTH PACIFIC, GUYS AND DOLLS, 42ND STREET, CHICAGO, ANYTHING GOES, THE PRODUCERS, and HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING.
