According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, there are a total of 58,987 registered nonprofits in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. However, of these nearly 60,000 nonprofits an astounding 39,100 reported less than $25,000 in gross receipts or did not report to the IRS in 2012. This means that about 66% of nonprofits in the DC Metropolitan Area are not getting the funding they need to carry out their day to day operations. Many of these organizations could greatly benefit from membership to a volunteer center and the professional development opportunities afforded to these grantees. This is where Volunteer Fairfax comes in.
To help meet this need, Volunteer Fairfax, an advocate for volunteerism, is now offering small, primarily volunteer-led nonprofits the opportunity to take advantage of the full benefits of our membership program by applying for a $250 scholarship which will fund: Partner Level Membership for one year ($100), a personalized orientation to Volunteer Fairfax’s programs and services ($75) and the opportunity to participate in a training session of their choice through Volunteer Fairfax ($40-$120 value).
