Arlington Business Rooted in Sustainable Design

EnviroHomeDesign is based in Arlington.

An Arlington woman got in on the ground floor of going green with her home design firm EnviroHomeDesign.

“Maybe you can call it trendy, but I call it smart because sustainable design and construction makes sense,” said owner said owner Marta Layseca, who worked as an architect in Argentina before getting involved in sustainable design.

Layseca founded her company in 2003 and has worked in the field since the late '70s. Her company values both the aesthetic and eco-objectives.

“[The design] has to be something that’s appealing to the client and have functionality,” Layseca said.

Layseca said that during the construction process, she finds ways to minimize the waste and materials used.

“We call it creating a healthy home because we are paying lots of attention to the indoor air quality,” Layseca added.

She said that one of her biggest challenges is getting the word out on sustainable design.

“It’s the smart way to go, it’s definitely the future,” Layseca said. “It’s not just style or fashion or a trend. The problem is education. People don’t know that they have this option available.”
