Arlington Fire Stations to Hold Open Houses Saturday

Want to learn more about your local fire department? Join them for an open house at all Arlington County Fire Stations on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You are invited to tour the station, talk with firefighters, climb on the trucks and learn about fire safety. The following stations will have these additional activities:

Station 1: Moon bounce and fire safety activities with a chance to win a carbon monoxide alarm

Station 2: Moon bounce and face painting

Station 3: Display of bomb robots

Station 5: Moon bounce

Station 6: Partnering with the Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department for equipment demonstrations

Station 7: Face painting and dress up firefighting gear for children

Station 8: Moon bounce and face painting

Station 9: Cooking fire demonstrations and safety tips

The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives, Test Yours Monthly”

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), nearly two thirds of all home fire deaths occur in homes without working smoke alarms.

Make sure your alarms are working and follow these safety tips:

• Install smoke alarms on every floor and in every bedroom.
• Test alarms monthly by pushing the test button.
• Change your smoke alarm batteries twice a year with daylight savings.
• Replace all alarms every 10 years.
• Ensure everyone in the home knows the sound of the smoke alarm and what to do when they hear it.
