The Marshall Precinct in the Donaldson Run area closed the night with only 191 voters out of about 3,000 registered voters in the precinct.

"We had some people who came out today and will always come to vote no matter what," said Julie Fiddick, chief of the Marshall Precinct. "Pushing 200 on a single-party primary when the full cohort of candidates is not on the ballot... It's interesting."

Mike Wilson brought his twin sons to vote at Taylor Elementary School, the polling place for the Marshall Precinct, just before the polls closed at 7 p.m.

"They made me," 17-year-old Micah Wilson said, motioning to his father, when asked about voting for the first time. Micah and Alex Wilson will be 18 by the November general election and therefore are eligible to vote in primary contests between now and then.

"I was disappointed" only two candidates were on the ballot, said Mike Wilson, who considers himself an independent. "I would've liked to see more choices. Of course, I don't know that I would've voted any different. But I would've liked to see more choices."

Former Virginia First Lady Susan Allen, whose husband is running for the U.S. Senate, spent part of the day outside of Taylor Elementary School talking with voters.

Republican county board candidate Mark Kelly stumped outside Virginia Highlands, Aurora Hills, Hume and Oakridge precincts Tuesday.
