Who Will Be Your Eyes and Ears on Your Wedding Day?
You have worked hard for months, maybe even years to plan your wedding so of course, you want all to go smoothly. So who is going to be your eyes and ears on your wedding day you don't have to?
This past Saturday, I went to do a venue visit for a client at a winery. The weather was great so it was perfect for a drive. The winery was beautiful (although I must say I don't think I've ever seen an ugly winery!).
After working and taking the tour, a friend met me for a nice afternoon of wine, lunch, and just catching up. The nice thing about visiting on Saturday was that there was a wedding that day so I was able to see the venue set up.
As my friend and I were out on the patio laughing and having a good time, a couple of the photographers were on the patio as well taking pictures of the bridal party who were up on the balcony. It was so nice to watch and they were having such a good time, of course you couldn't help but smile.

After the picture taking was over, one of the photographers stayed on the patio, talking to a group that was enjoying the winery that day as well. Now don't get me wrong, stopping to say hi, how are you is not an issue. The issue came when 20 minutes after the pictures on the patio were completed, the photographer was still on the patio talking, laughing and joking with patrons of the winery (not guests of the wedding) and pulled up a chair, continued to talk, and ordered a glass of wine while the other photographer, wedding party, and guests were inside enjoying the celebration.
I couldn't help but think how awful. This couple has paid to have two Photographers capture their special day, catch moments they may miss and here one of them is relaxing on the patio, enjoying a glass of wine. I never saw a planner, day-of coordinator, or anyone who was watching over things so that the Bride and Groom didn't have to. Eventually, the Bride walked past and happened to see him out there. She opened the door, looked at him and closed the door. Needless to say, he quickly finished his glass of wine, got up and went back inside to work.

It also upset me because it made me think again about the skepticism that couples have with meeting vendors because how do you know you are hiring a reputable, reliable vendor?, if the vendor receives great reviews, how do you know they are going to do what they say they will on your wedding day because you can't be in two places at one time and see all things. After watching this scenario, who could blame a couple for thinking this way?
Find someone to be your eyes and ears because you can't be in two places at once. Hire a day-of coordinator, have a trusted friend or family member who can keep an eye out for you to make sure things are going as they should. And if they aren't, this is someone who can get them back in order and keep a note of anything you may need to know afterwards.
