Washington, DC-area audiences will get a glimpse of what is happening globally in the dance and new media realms through DANCE:FILMS—dances on screen and in performance by Maida Withers, a celebrated dance artist who is a national leader in the application of new media and technologies with dance.
Withers presents six engaging dance film “shorts” including four premieres, created with filmmakers and electronic artists Anthony Gongora, Ludovic Jolivet, Ayodamola Okunseinde and Steve Hilmy. In addition to the screenings, the evening features a visually charged electronic media and music performance by Ayodamola Okunseinde and Steve Hilmy along with two short excerpts of dances by Withers for Dance Construction Company dancers Tzveta Kassabova, Giselle Ruzany, Anthony Gongora, and Nate Bond. Collaborating artist/filmmakers will participate in a “talk back” with the audience about dance on camera and other issues related to DANCE: FILMS following the show.
