About

PUSH Tunisia is a skateboard 'artivism' project which featuring a group of skateboarders and street artists as they journey to Tunisia eleven months after the revolution. The diverse crew flew in from Israel, Jordan, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia and the U.S. Their focus was to tap into the creative energy of the Tunisian youth and connect with local artists, skaters, musicians and activists. The result is a 35 minute film and art exhibition about this experience. PUSH Tunisia shows how it is possible to inspire a change in human perspective away from destruction and complacency towards proactive peace through creative oppositions and celebrations of the positive in our world.

How it Started
In March 2011, Jared Gibson, an American living in Tunis, began using his skateboard to offer lessons to the local youth to raise money for those in need of medical care but without the means to afford it. He received the Foreign Service Youth Foundation 2011 Community Service Award generously sponsored by Clements Worldwide for his skateboard diplomacy work from the Foreign Service Youth Foundation and was soon contacted by Nathan Gray, the director of theBedouins, a non-profit using skateboarding and art as instruments of peace.  The two decided to use their talents for a skateboarding project in Tunisia and applied for a grant from the U.S. Embassy in Tunis. PUSH Tunisia became a reality and the experience was captured in a documentary film.
