SICK: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF BOB FLANAGAN, SUPERMASOCHIST

Includes Q&A with Sheree Rose A 1997 documentary about Bob Flanagan, the Los Angeles writer, poet, performance artist, and comic, and his long-term dominatrix/partner, Sheree Rose. Flanagan suffered from the genetic lung disease, Cystic Fibrosis, throughout his short life, he died in 1996 at the age of 43. This poignant, disturbing, yet also very funny documentary examines his personal odyssey to gain a measure of control over his body by inflicting pain on himself. We learn about his fight against the illness, his creative process with Rose, showcased by their visceral performances and installations that informed his philosophies -- and the importance of his relationship with Rose and how it evolved over their 15 years together. While some scenes are not for the faint of heart or the squeamish, its ultimately an uplifting, life-affirming, love story, despite being tragic.
