Man, 24, Shoots Himself Outside Union Jack's Bar in Ballston
The incident took place just after 1 a.m. on Thursday.

A 24-year-old Alexandria man shot himself in the head early Thursday outside of the Union Jack’s restaurant in Ballston, police reported.
The incident took place at 1 a.m., according Arlington County Police Department spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.
Sternbeck said that the man was at the bar with his girlfriend early Thursday when he stepped out to smoke a cigarette.

“He took a firearm out and discharged the firearm several times before putting his gun to the head and pulling the trigger,” Sternbeck said.
The man did not threaten anyone else with the weapon, Sternbeck said. His name has not been released.

Sternbeck said that the was taken to a hospital, and is on life support as of Thursday afternoon.
