Police Investigate Tuesday Deaths as Double Homicide

The Arlington County Police Department is now classifying as a double homicide.

The bodies of Keefe Spriggs, 59, of Arlington, and Carl Moten, 31, who has no fixed address, were found shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday in an apartment in the 1900 block of North Culpeper Street. The three-story apartment complex is about a quarter-mile south of Lee Highway between George Mason Drive and Glebe Road.

Spriggs and Moten were acquaintances, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said. He would not say how they were killed.

Police did not find any weapons inside the apartment, he said.

Investigators have talked with neighbors, though so far no one has reported seeing or hearing anything in the hours leading up to killings.

"This is still the very early stages of our investigation," Sternbeck said. "We're trying to identify and locate any suspects so they can be taken into custody in a timely manner."

Sternbeck called the deaths "an isolated incident" — that is, police do not believe the community at large is at danger. He would not say what led investigators to believe that.

"Let the police do their job. When we're ready to release information, we'll release it," he said. "We have a job to do, and right now our attention is focused on locating and identifying a subject or subjects."
