"We've been talking to so many people around the immediate area that we're still trying to piece everything together," Sternbeck said. "The victim and his family is actively working with us. But he's under a lot of medication right now."

Detectives hope to speak more with the victim Sunday morning in order to begin agressively putting together what happened, Sternbeck said.

Original story: The Arlington County Police Department is investigating a shooting in the 4200 block of 2nd Road North.

The victim is a man who appears to be in his late 20s, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

At about 7:50 p.m., someone called 911 to report hearing gunshots in the vicinity of 2nd Road North.

Officers arrived to find the victim laying in a parking space between two vehicles, Sternbeck said. The parking lot was for nearby two-story brick apartments.

The man suffered two gunshot wounds — one to the abdomen, the other to his upper right leg. It appears he was shot as he was leaving his vehicle, Sternbeck said.

The victim is still alive. He was taken to a local hospital, and attempted to talk to medics on the way. He is considered to be in critical condition, Sternbeck said.

The victim has limited English language skills, Sternbeck said.

The suspect is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall,  and was dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask. After the shooting, he ran south toward Arlington Boulevard. He should be considered armed and dangerous, Sternbeck said.

Police are canvassing the area looking for witnesses and the suspect.

"The important thing for us right now is that we have a suspect at large," Sternbeck said. "We're really trying to focus on finding that individual."

It's unclear if anything was taken from the victim. Investigators don't have a motive at this point, Sternbeck said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call 703-558-2222.
