Report: Baltimore Man Pleads Guilty in Drunk Driving Death in Arlington

Aman Singh Lail, 24, initially told police he wasn't driving car that killed Saqlain Chowdhury, 24, of Alexandria.

Baltimore resident Aman Singh Lail pled guilty Thursday morning to charges of involuntary manslaughter and DWI in Arlington, according to a report by The Washington Post.

Lail, a student at Northern Virginia Community College, was driving east on Lee Highway Jan. 24, 2012, at 2 a.m. when his car smashed into driver Saqlain Chowdhury, 24 at an intersection. Chowdhury died at George Washington University Hospital. Lail initially told police he was not driving the car, the Post reported.

Judge Louise M. DiMatteo said she would wait until pre-sentence investigations are completed to decide whether she accepts a deal for a 12 year or less sentence for Lail, the Post report said.

A report by NBC-4 after the crash noted Lail had just gotten his license back after it was suspended for a year after he got a DWI. His previous traffic violations include reckless driving, speeding, disregarding traffic lights and public intoxication, NBC-4 reported.
