Students Suspended After Allegedly Bringing Knives to Middle School

Two students allegedly brought knives to Thomas Jefferson Middle School last week.

The students were charged and suspended from the school on Thursday, according to information the Arlington County Police Department released today.

“A school administrator witnessed suspicious behavior and upon searching them found the weapons,” said Arlington County police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

One knife was found on one of the students and another knife was found in a student’s locker, Sternbeck said. He would not say whether the students indicated if they were planning on using the weapons at the school.

Police do not typically release the names of juveniles.

Arlington Public Schools spokesman Frank Bellavia declined to give more information on the incident, citing student privacy concerns.

A student-parent handbook available on the school system’s website indicates that when a student is suspended for having a weapon on campus, school administrators will determine before the end of the suspension period if the student should be recommended for expulsion.
