Sunday Road Closures: Expect 'Significant' Delays Near Pentagon

Multiple roads closed due to events commemorating 10-year anniversary of 9/11 attack.

Arlington County is closing multiple roads near the Pentagon Sunday at the request of the U.S. Secret Service for events commemorating the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.

"Motorists are encouraged to make alternate travel arrangements to avoid the area around the Pentagon. As conditions change it is possible these road closures will be broadened. Those traveling through this area should expect significant delays for the majority of the day and are strongly encouraged to avoid the area," according to a statement released by the county.

Closures from 8:15 to 10:45 a.m. and 2:30 to 5 p.m.:

  • Washington Boulevard eastbound at Exit 8B on I-395.
  • Washington Boulevard eastbound at the split to Northbound I-395.
  • Washington Boulevard southbound from Memorial Bridge.
  • Southbound I-395 to Pentagon South Parking. Traffic will be diverted onto southbound U.S. 1 through Crystal City. Vehicles can get back onto the interstate via Glebe Road and South 23rd Street. Officers will be posted along this route.
  • Columbia Pike from Joyce Street to Pentagon South Parking. Access the Pentagon via Boundary Channel.
  • Northbound I-395 HOV exit to Washington Boulevard.
  • Southbound I-395 HOV exit to Eads Street. Northbound must exit to Army Navy Drive.
  • Route 110 southbound at I-66. All access to Route 110 will be blocked at Wilson Boulevard, Marshall Drive, Memorial Drive, George Washington Parkway and state Route 27.
  • Route 110 northbound from Route 1. Access to Route 110 will be blocked south of Memorial Drive.

From 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • Fern Street from Army Navy Drive to the Pentagon.
  • Eads Street from Army Navy Drive to the Pentagon.
  • Rotary Road closed throughout Pentagon South Parking.
  • The North/South Connector at the Pentagon.
