Be Street Smart: Campaign for Road Safety in Dale City Area

The Street Smart Education and Enforcement Campaign from the Prince William County Police runs through Nov. 24.

The Prince William County Police Department have started a campaign to teach residents to share the road safely and responsibly.

The Street Smart education and enforcement campaign, which began Nov. 6 and runs until Nov. 24 in Prince William County, aims to reduce the number of pedestrian and bicycle crashes with motor vehicles.

Police officers will focus on behaviors that increase risk for these types of accidents, such as:

  • speeding,
  • running red lights,
  • running stop signs
  • driving without headlights at night, or at any time when visibility is reduced
  • failing to yield the right of way to pedestrians

Police’s hopes for the campaign are:

  • To change motorist and pedestrian behavior, and reduce injuries and crashes
  • To increase awareness of the consequences of pedestrian and bicycle crashes
  • To recommend actions to reduce risks, such as:

*Using Crosswalks
