ARE YOUR VALUABLES PROPERLY INSURED?

Are Your Valuables Properly Insured?

All insurance policies put a limit on how much they will pay for valuables such as jewelry, silver, fine arts, and furs.  Speak with the agent about your valuables.  Do not assume that you will get full value if you include them with your regular contents.  You may want to list certain items or include a miscellaneous amount for certain kinds of valuables.  The agent should bring this to your attention, but if they don’t  - ASK!

Finally, everyone, no matter the size of their assets should carry at least $1MM umbrella liability.  It is called an umbrella because it provides an extra layer of liability over anything that is in your name.  This type of policy should always be a part of the discussion with your agent.

While there are variables with insurance policies, and individual circumstances, the best thing that you can do for yourself is to have a little knowledge before you call an agent, be clear about your situation, and only buy from someone who takes the time to educate and guide, and who you feel will be there for you to help with  ongoing needs and, of course,   in the event of claim.
