Fitness and Wellness Expo

A free "one-stop-shop" to let you explore many fitness options in the area at Dale City Recreation Center this Saturday.

is hosting its fourth annual Fitness and Wellness Expo this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. as a free open house to allow the community to learn more about the fitness opportunities in the area.  

Vendors will have booths set up in the gym where people can browse and hone in on the things they need, said Carmen Fermin, fitness director at SBDCRC. She said the idea for the expo is to get together different pieces of the wellness industry that the recreation center itself doesn’t offer to help people meet experts in many different fields and complete their fitness and wellness plans.

There will be chiropractors, nutrionists, massage therapists, pilates consultants, blood pressure screenings, personal training and group fitness consultations. The recreation center will also offer free demonstrations of some of its own offerings, such as , Pilates Allegro Reformer, and the new .

“It’s a great opportunity for people to just check us out and also to check out other things they need,” said Fermin.

There will also be a chance to sign up for the first annual 5K walk in memory of Jenny Vaughn-Bates who was . Vaughn-Bates’s father is a personal trainer at SBDCRC, Fermin said.

Panera Bread will be providing refreshments at the event, there will be give-aways, and a Tai Chi demonstration at 10:30 a.m. Also in celebration of the center’s 35th anniversary, they will be offering 20 percent off all six and 12 month passes if purchased on Saturday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
