Ice Center Rebuilding Making Progress

The Prince William Ice Center is scheduled to re-open August 2011.

The Prince William Ice Center is on schedule for an August opening—just in time for the fall hockey season.  Owners Bill and Pat Hutzler said “as long as the weather doesn’t hold us back.”

The Hutzlers are planning on a grand opening sometime after the doors officially open.  There will also be a separate ribbon cutting ceremony.  The grand opening will feature figure skating and hockey demonstrations as well as a new sport to be offered at the ice center: curling.

“We are anxious to reopen and anxious to see our local teams,” said Bill Hutzler.

The steel structure of the new ice rink can be seen from Dale Boulevard as the first beam was raised end of April.  Some cement has been poured and the roof will be started this week.

Employees of the PW Ice Center will begin training before the doors will open as a lot of the staff will be brand new.  The hiring process is not over yet however.  More information can be found on their website www.pwice.com

Construction on the new ice center building after the old building had collapsed under the weight of snow in February.

The new arena will be welcome to area ice skaters and hockey teams, who had to adjust by driving to rinks in Haymarket or farther away.
