Eid-ul-Fitr is a special Islamic holiday that Muslims all over the world celebrate to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Muslims fast during this month to get closer to God, practice self-discipline, and remember those who are not as fortunate as they are. When this month ends, Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr to thank God for giving us the opportunity to complete our fasts and to celebrate this accomplishment with our friends and family. Eid is not only a celebration but also a reminder to continue doing good deeds and to stay in touch with God through prayers even when it's not Ramadan.
On this day of Eid, Muslims perform a special prayer called the Eid prayer in a mosque or a large gathering place. Muslims wear clean or new clothes to show their respect and joy about this special day. Before performing this special prayer, Muslims give charity to those in need so that everyone in this world can enjoy this day of Eid. This is in accordance with the teaching of the Holy Quran and that of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). After the prayer, families gather together and give gifts to children and friends. Muslims also greet each other on this special day of Eid with a greeting that says “Eid Mubarak,” which means “Blessed Eid.” It reminds Muslims that after a month of patience, prayer, and fasting, God blesses us with a day of peace and happiness.
