Alexandria City Council To Honor Pat Miller

The Alexandria City Council will make Pat Miller Neighborhood Square official to recognize her contributions to Del Ray.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—The corner of Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues hosting the Del Ray Farmers Market has been referred to Pat Miller Neighborhood Square for some time. Now it's about to become official.

The Alexandria City Council will dedicate the square to Pat Miller for her tireless work to improve Del Ray. It will take place Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. during the Art on the Avenue, one of many community events and initiatives Miller has organized as treasurer of the Del Ray Business Association and in other roles.

"Del Ray is Del Ray because of the force of nature that is Pat Miller," said Alexandria Vice Mayor Justin Wilson, a Del Ray resident. "It is altogether fitting to name a space that brings our neighborhood together after a person who has brought our neighborhood together for so long.”

The capacities in which she served the city seem endless. Miller, who has lived in Del Ray for over 30 years, has served as a president of the Del Ray Business Association and served on the board for more than 20 years. She co-chairs the Special Events Committee, planning events such as First Thursday, Taste of Del Ray, the Halloween Parade, Turkey Trot and Holiday Tree Lighting.

She is market manager of the Del Ray Farmers Market, chair of Art on the Avenue and a board member of the Alexandria Police Foundation, special needs nonprofit Kelly Cares Foundation and Community Partners for Children. Miller previously chaired the Alexandria Commission for the Arts among numerous other volunteer roles. She was named an Alexandria "Living Legend" in 2012.

"If there's a need or a call for volunteers, then Pat is part of it," said Del Ray Business Association board member Gayle Reuter, who co-chairs the Special Events Committee with Miller. "Every time we talk I find out something new that she has volunteered for."
