Alexandria City Public Schools Closed On Jan 6
The school district will be closed on Saturday, although ACT testing and activities off school grounds will take place.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—As the "bomb cyclone" hit the DC area with a bit of snow and strong, chilly winds continuing into Friday, Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed Saturday, Dec. 6. Schools had a two-hour delay on Friday, Jan. 5.
School activities are cancelled on Saturday, aside from those at rec centers and other city facilities. ACT testing that was reschedule from December will take place.
In addition, T.C. William's 2018 TCW Winter One-Act Play Festival Competition is cancelled Friday, Jan. 5 and will be rescheduled. The Saturday, Jan. 6 performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. are still on.

The decision comes after the school district cancelled classes Thursday, Jan. 4. Alexandria received less than an inch of snow overnight Thursday, but the National Weather Service has extended a wind chill advisory for the region through noon Saturday. Residents should expect wind chills ranging from 5 degrees to -10 degrees.
The advisory applies to central DC, Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford County, Spotsylvania County, and eastern Loudoun County. High temperatures will be between 15 and 20 degrees on Friday and Saturday, with wind chills making it feel like temperatures in the single digits. Forecasters warn that cold wind chills will cause frostbite to exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
