Alexandria Democrats Present United Front
Alexandria Democratic Committee announces a "Joint Campaign to elect Democratic candidates for Mayor and City Council."

The Alexandria Democratic Committee (ADC) announced today a “Joint Campaign to elect the Democratic candidates for Mayor and City Council in the election this November,” the group said in a news release.
The announcement notes that “The ADC is excited to support such a diverse, effective, and experienced ticket that represents the right balance of leadership to lead the City of Alexandria into the future”:
- Mayor: Allison Silberberg
- City Council: Willie Bailey, John Taylor Chapman, Tim Lovain, Del Pepper, Paul Smedberg, and Justin Wilson
In the coming months, the ADC Joint Campaign will coordinate with the Democratic candidates to spread a unified message focused on a positive vision for Alexandria based on Democratic principles, the group said.

“I am proud to lead this Democratic ticket into the November election,” said Silberberg. “Each of our candidates brings a long history of dedicated service to the City of Alexandria and our community. Democratic leadership has maintained the City’s AAA bond rating and continues to be accessible and responsive to our increasingly diverse community we are proud to call home.”
The ADC notes that State Sen. Adam Ebbin has agreed to serve as chair of the Joint Campaign. “I look forward to working with members of the Joint Campaign to elect our Democratic candidates for Mayor and City Council,” Ebbin said. “There’s a lot at stake in this election, but I am confident that with a strong Democratic ticket and a committed group of individuals working on the Joint Campaign, Alexandria will remain blue in November.”

The announcement comes two weeks before the self-imposed deadline for a decision by Mayor Bill Euille on whether he plans to run this fall as a write-in candidate for mayor.
Euille lost the June 9 Democratic primary in a low-turnout, three-way race with Vice Mayor Allison Silberberg and former Mayor Kerry Donley. Some say he would have won had it been a two-way race and if Republicans hadn’t crossed party lines to vote for Silberberg.
