Alexandria Farmers Markets Will Resume On-Site Food Prep

While Alexandria's five farmers markets can have food preparation on site, consumption is not allowed in market areas.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Starting on July 4, Alexandria's five farmers markets can resume on-site food preparation as well as non-food vendors. The new guidance, aligned with the Forward Virginia phase three reopening plan, is effective until further notice at the city-operated Old Town Farmers’ Market, Old Town North Farmers Market, Del Ray Farmers’ Market, Four Mile Run Farmers & Artisans Market and West End Farmers’ Market.

Examples of food preparation permitted on site includes food trucks, made-to-order sandwiches, freshly-squeezed juices and coffee. However, no food sampling and consumption of purchased products will be permitted in market areas. On-site sales are allowed, although customers are encouraged to pre-order when possible and limit browsing.

Restricted entry and exit points as well as customer limits will continue to manage crowd flow and physical distancing. Vendor tables must be spaced at least eight feet apart, and individuals are asked to maintain six feet from vendors, market staff and customers.

Face coverings are a continued requirement for vendors and market staff, and they are encouraged for customers entering the market. Vendors must wear gloves and change them regularly. Customers, vendors and market staff are asked to stay home if sick, a family member is sick, or if they've had contact with anyone with COVID-19 or symptoms.
