Alexandria Fire Stations To Host Oct. 15 Open House
The open house at Alexandria fire stations happens amid National Fire Prevention Week, which encourages families to plan in case of a fire.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria fire stations will open their doors to the public for an open house Saturday, Oct. 15.
All Alexandria fire stations will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 15. Personnel will be on site to answer questions about the facilities, equipment and the fire department. Residents can also enjoy family-friendly activities, station and fire apparatus tours and fire prevention information and materials.
"After two years of our stations being closed because of the pandemic, we’re excited to welcome the community in for this event so they have the opportunity to get to know their local first responders, tour their neighborhood fire stations, and learn what to do if there’s ever a fire in their homes or businesses," said Alexandria Fire and EMS Chief Corey Smedley.

This year's fire prevention campaign encourages residents to make a plan for escape in case of a home fire.

The Alexandria Fire Department encourages residents to make an escape plan with their family, replace old smoke alarms, and change their smoke alarms' batteries every six months.
“We’re proud to announce that over the last three years, we haven't had any fire fatalities in the City of Alexandria," said Smedley. "However fire won’t wait, so plan your escape so that everyone stays safe."
The fire department's open house will coincide with the city Tons of Trucks event on Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Chinquapin Park, 3210 King Street.
