Alexandria Girls Launch Recyclable Food Container In Del Ray
The three Alexandria girls decided to do something when they saw overflowing trash cans in Del Ray.
ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Three T.C. Williams High School students knew they wanted to do their STEM capstone project on an environmental topic. When they walked down Del Ray's Mount Vernon Avenue and saw garbage overflowing in the trash cans, they knew just what to do.
After seeing styrofoam takeout containers in the garbage Leila Rasmussen, Elspeth Collard and Bridget Williams decided to launch recyclable takeout containers in Del Ray, reported the Alexandria Gazette Packet.
In their plan, consumers would buy a takeout containers to reuse at local restaurants and receive a discount for doing so. The girls worked to find a durable, BPA-free, and microwave and dishwasher safe container that restaurants can sell for $5. They have gotten three restaurants on board so far: Taqueria el Poblano, Pork Barrel BBQ and Los Tios Grill.
