Alexandria Library Adds Kanopy Movie Streaming Service

Don't have Netflix or cable? Alexandria library patrons can now access a free film streaming service.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—If you think local libraries couldn't be more valuable, think again. Alexandria Library has introduced the Kanopy film streaming service, allowing customers to access more than 30,000 films for free. The service is available to customers as of Monday, Aug. 6.

Current library members can access Kanopy right away. Visit http://alexlib.kanopy.com and use your library barcode number and pin to create a Kanopy account and start streaming movies. You can steam movies from computers, TVs, mobile devices or platforms using the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, Apple TV, Chromecast or Roku.

The catch is that library members have eight play credits, or checkouts, each month. Each film can be checked out for three days. Movies are available at any time for checkout. New play credits are issued on the first of every month.
