Alexandria Pet Of The Week: Help Mars Find A Comfortable Home

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria hopes to find a loving home for Mars, which would help relieve his stress from being in the shelter.

Are you or another family in the market for a new dog? The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria wants to find a home for Mars, who has spent 150 days in the animal shelter.

This 3-year-old dog loves walks and playing with his toys. But the AWLA staff believe he would be happier and healthier moving to a home away from the noise and stress of the animal shelter.

Here's more information about Mars:

Mars, 3-Year-Old Male Fawn-Colored Terrier Mix
What does 150 days mean? 150 days is about 5 months. It spans 3 seasons: winter, spring and now summer. It takes us back all the way to the chilly days of January. And it's how long 3-year-old Mars has been at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
During this time, he's received nutritious meals, medical attention and a comfortable place to sleep. He's been showered with attention by AWLA staff and volunteers. He's had the chance to share some of his favorite things, including long walks and stuffed toys, and he's let us know some things he doesn't like as much: sudden, loud noises or movements; noisy environments; and being told it's time to stop playing Tug-of-War (though he'll accept it).
But 150 days is a lot, especially for a sensitive dog like Mars. And the more time he spends in the busy, noisy kennel environment, the more he is at risk: at risk of mental and even physical decline from the stress he is experiencing.
Mars needs to get out of the kennel environment, ideally to a new home with a loving family, but even a break in a foster home would make a huge impact to Mars' health and stress level. 150 days is a long time for Mars, but it's nothing compared to the future he has ahead of him, happy and healthy in his new home. If only he has the opportunity to find it...
