Alexandria Schools Make Decision For Jan. 29 Classes

The city will be under a winter weather advisory with potentially hazardous conditions during Tuesday evening's commute.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria City Public Schools will close two hours early Tuesday, Jan. 29 with hazardous winter weather expected to move in the afternoon. The school district will also close offices early and cancel after-school activities.

Other schedule changes include:

  • No make-up classes are required for early closings.
  • Morning pre-school will be dismissed at 11 a.m.
  • Afternoon pre-school is canceled, but make-up classes may be required.
  • Essential personnel will work a regular day.
  • Non-administrative licensed staff and paraprofessionals may be released at the principal's discretion after students have been dismissed and buses have departed. All other day staff are expected to work a regular day.
  • Night personnel must report at regular time or take leave with supervisor's approval (unless otherwise instructed).
  • Bus drivers/bus monitors report two hours earlier than regular time for afternoon runs.
  • The ACPS closure does not impact events in city recreation centers or other city facilities. For updated information on City closures, see www.alexandriava.gov. Alexandria is under a winter weather advisory from 3 p.m. to midnight Tuesday. Forecasters expect rain will turn into snow with up to 1 inch of accumulation. As temperatures fall below freezing in the evening, untreated roads or sidewalks could become slippery. Drivers should plan for hazardous conditions on the roads for the evening commute.
