A man donated his sperm to a lesbian couple in Kansas. Now, the state is suing him to pay child support, despite having a written agreement with them absolving him of all parental responsibilities. Kansas law recognizes that a sperm donor is not the father if a doctor performs the artificial insemination. Here, there was no doctor involved.
Answer: While complicated, the result would most likely be different in Virginia. Virginia law says in part, "…donor is not the parent of a child conceived through assisted conception.”
