Del Ray's Dairy Godmother Featured on 'The Bill Press Show'
Owner Liz Davis talked up frozen custard Friday, National Frozen Custard Day, on national radio program.

Liz Davis, owner of Del Ray’s The Dairy Godmother, was featured Friday morning on a national radio show, ”The Bill Press Show.” The occasion? National Frozen Custard Day.
At midnight before Friday morning’s show, employees at the popular Del Ray shop packed up freshly made frozen custard to sample on the air (although host Bill Press was agonizingly unable to try them due to a doctor’s appointment after the program); the flavors on hand were vanilla, chocolate and dulce de leche.

Davis discussed frozen custard’s beginnings at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair, its popularity in Wisconsin and the differences between frozen custard and ice cream.
“This is the real stuff,” Press said to his audience. He pointed out that he had a Cuisinart ice cream maker at home and wondered aloud if he could make it himself. Davis jokingly said she prefers that customers come into her shop instead of trying to make it at home.
Davis, who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and has a background as a pastry chef, noted that in addition to frozen custard, The Dairy Godmother also features cobblers, cookies and sorbets. You can check out the flavors being served up at the shop by checking the Flavor Forecast. Some of the flavors coming up this month include Bordeaux Cherry, Banana Pudding and Caramel Heathbar.
