Future Of Alexandria City Hall To Be Evaluated
Before a new renovation of City Hall starts in 2022, the city is looking at which services should stay in the building.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Before anticipated renovations of Alexandria City Hall begin in 2022, the city government is looking at what services it will include in the future. The City of Alexandria launched a study on the future vision of the building. While City Hall will remain the center of the local government, not all services could stay in the building.
Guidelines for current and future space needs for each department in City Hall were created in 2015. The city found not all staff and services will fit in City Hall once it's renovated. Some departments and services will need to be relocated.
The study will determine which services are most important to being in City Hall. It will serve as a guide to the upcoming City Hall renovations.

Alexandria City Hall was constructed in 1871 and includes a tower modeled after the one in the 1817 City Hall that burned down. It originally housed the Masonic Lodge, court, and police and fire stations but is now limited to most city offices. The building was renovated in 1981.
A community survey is open through July 12. The draft concert will be open for public comment at a City Hall Visioning Community Meeting on July 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in City Hall's Sister Cities Conference Room 1101.
