Historic Alexandria Homes Tour Celebrates 76 Years
This fall, Alexandria's historic homes tour includes America's first free girls' school that later became a Civil War prison.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—76 is a meaningful number in American history, and it just so happens to have even more significance in Alexandria this fall.
The annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour is celebrating 76 years. This year's tours feature eight homes and gardens within walking distance of each other. The tours will be held Sept. 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
The tours will please history buffs and environmentalists alike. The tour includes an 1812 home that served as the first free girls' school in America and later a Civil War prison. Then, sightseers will come back to the modern day by checking out a house with a geothermal cooling and heating system, which significantly reduces electric bills.
