Jeffords Aims to Please with Lowcountry Boil at Evening Star Cafe
Saturday block party will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Executive Chef Jim Jeffords has assembled an impressive list of ingredients for Saturday’s lowcountry boil block party.
To start, there’s the order of 210 pounds of crawfish that’s expected to arrive from Louisiana sometime on Friday. Then there’s 200 pounds of Andouille sausage, 200 pounds of corn and 100 pounds of shrimp. Oh, and lots of potatoes, too.
“We’ve been piping out the sausage after service hours,” Jeffords said.

All the ingredients will be thrown into pots, seasoned and cooked until the chef has it just where he wants.
A Georgia native, Jeffords seven months ago. The seafood boil is a fun, social tradition he wanted to share in the neighborhood.

“It’s a simple thing but I think it will be a great time,” Jeffords said.
Anything leftover will be available in the restaurant as long as supplies last, Jeffords said. He recently added to the Star’s menu.
Saturday’s event, which will run outdoors from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., will offer both a shrimp boil or crawfish boil. Half-smokes, cornbreads and cobblers from the Star’s kitchen will also be available.
Jeffords said he called up Terrapin Beer Company in Athens, Ga., to join the event and feature some its craft brews, including its Lionshead Lager, Hopsecutioner, Easy Rider, Hop Karma, Hopzilla and Phlux Capacitor.
“They’re bringing some beers you can’t get around here,” Jeffords said.
Admission to the lowcounty boil block party is free. Food and beverage tickets will be sold individually for $1 each. Items will range from four to 10 tickets. The event will also feature live music.
