BREAKING: Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe introduced a budget amendment to expand Medicaid as the Affordable Care Act remains in place.

RICHMOND, VA - Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe introduced a budget amendment today to expand Medicaid in the Virginia as the retraction of Republicans' federal healthcare reform keeps the Affordable Care Act in place. McAuliffe also vetoed a bill that would have rolled back state laws to pre-Obamacare years.

The proposal will face opposition from the Republican-controlled state legislature, which has blocked expansion before.
Virginia would become the 33rd state to expand Medicaid. States expanding Medicaid receive a portion of matching federal funds. Under the ACA, people making below 133 percent of the federal poverty line are eligible for Medicaid coverage.
