ALEXANDRIA, VA — Work on the Potomac Yard Metro station will impact Yellow and Blue Line riders in the Alexandria area heading toward DC on Saturday and Sunday.

Yellow and Blue Line trains will single track between the Braddock Road and National Airport stations on Saturday, Sept. 25 and Sunday, Sept. 26. Trains will run every 30 minutes.

The Potomac Yard Metro station is expected to open in 2022. Metro previously announced a delay of at least five months due to an error in the design contract language. The original opening date was expected to be April 2022, and now it will be no earlier than September 2022.

Other weekend Metrorail impacts include no service between the East Falls Church and Ballston stations on the Orange and Silver Lines due to radio cable installation. Orange Line trains will run every 15 minutes between Vienna to East Falls Church and Ballston to New Carrollton. Free shuttle buses will transport riders between the East Falls Church and Ballston stations.

The Silver Line will only run between Wiehle-Reston East and East Falls Church every 15 minutes, so riders should use shuttle buses to continue onto the Orange Line in Ballston.

The Green Line will have regular service.

As of Sept. 5, Metro introduced increased service and new discounts, including $2 one-way weekend fares regardless of distance and a a $2 transfer discount between Metrobus and Metrorail that covers the cost of regular Metrobus routes and a portion of express routes. Metro is also opening at 7 a.m. on Sundays instead of 8 a.m. and will stay open until 1 a.m. instead of midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Masks continue to be required in stations and on trains and buses due to a federal mandate.
