Northern Virginia Reports Over 1,000 New Coronavirus Cases
Northern Virginia had more than 1,000 daily cases on two days May 25 and Nov. 25.
VIRGINIA — Northern Virginia continues to lead the state's regions in daily new coronavirus cases. On Wednesday, the region had 1,090 cases of the state's 2,718 new cases, according to Virginia Department of Health data.
Wednesday was the only day aside from May 25 where the northern region's cases totaled more than 1,000. New cases in Northern Virginia include 387 in Fairfax County, 326 in Prince William County, 205 in Loudoun County, 89 in Arlington County, 55 in Alexandria, 12 in Manassas, seven in Manassas Park, five in Fairfax City, and four in Falls Church. The northern region's seven-day average of daily cases is 735.3. A month ago on Oct. 25, the average was 234.3.
Other regional cases include 661 in the southwest region (606.4 seven-day average), 353 in the central region (370 seven-day average) 323 in the eastern region (409.1 seven-day average), and 291 in the northwest region (374.4 seven-day average).

Virginia's statewide average of daily cases is 2,495. Daily cases have been above 2,000 on all but one day since Nov. 16. On Monday, a new high of 3,242 cases was reported.
Data on cases by symptom onset shows November having the days with the most cases. The top day for cases by start of symptoms was Nov. 9 with 1,940 cases statewide, followed by Nov. 16 with 1,738. Data may be incomplete for recent weeks due to illnesses not yet reported.

November also has the days with the most PCR tests completed. On Nov. 18, 34,003 tests were completed, followed by 32,913 tests on Nov. 11. The seven-day average of tests completed is 25,831 as of Nov. 21.
The seven-day positive average of PCR tests is 7.5 percent. Averages by region are 10 percent in the southwest region, 8 percent in the northern region, 7.4 percent in the eastern region, 6.1 percent in the northwest region and 5.9 percent in the central region.
There were 29 new deaths reported on Wednesday, and the seven-day average of daily death reports is 21.1. The seven-day average of new daily deaths reported per 100,000 people is 0.2.
The current statewide hospitalizations stand at 1,549 with a seven-day average of 1,516. The peak average had been 1,573.3 on May 12. The seven-day average of new daily hospitalizations per 100,000 people is 1. The average of daily new hospitalizations is 86.
By region, numbers stand at 405 in the northern region, 330 in the southwest region, 303 in the central region, 278 in the eastern region, and 233 in the northwest region.
According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, the 1,549 current COVID-19 patients include 153 on ventilators and 361 in the intensive care units. Ventilator use among all hospital patients is at 29 percent, and ICU occupancy is at 76 percent.
There are no hospitals reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours. The last time PPE difficulties were reported was Sept. 18.
Thursday marks Thanksgiving Day, and the Virginia Department of Health urges Virginians to avoid travel for Thanksgiving due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 in Virginia and the U.S. Residents are urged to stay home or keep celebrations small and local. For those that do travel, the VDH recommends checking travel restrictions, getting a flu shot, wearing a mask in public places, maintaining six feet of distance from people outside your household and washing hands or using sanitizer.

- Alexandria: 5,106 cases, 353 hospitalizations, 77 deaths; increase of 55 cases and three hospitalizations
- Arlington County: 5,994 cases, 572 hospitalizations, 157 deaths; increase of 89 cases and three hospitalizations
- Fairfax County: 29,556 cases, 2,496 hospitalizations, 620 deaths; increase of 377 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and three deaths
- Fairfax City: 205 cases, 17 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of five cases
- Falls Church: 97 cases, 14 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of four cases
- Loudoun County: 9,717 cases, 550 hospitalizations, 142 deaths; increase of 205 cases, six hospitalizations and three deaths
- Manassas: 2,250 cases, 136 hospitalizations, 28 deaths; increase of 12 cases
- Manassas Park: 713 cases, 60 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of seven cases
- Prince William County: 17,484 cases, 1,075 hospitalizations, 236 deaths; increase of 326 cases, four hospitalizations and two deaths
- Fredericksburg: 674 cases, 56 hospitalizations, six deaths; increase of five cases
- Spotsylvania County: 3,014 cases, 177 hospitalizations, 57 deaths; increase of 19 cases and one hospitalization
- Stafford County: 3,134 cases, 191 hospitalizations, 22 deaths; increase of 36 cases and two hospitalizations
